Cold War 00:59
So sentimental about tv shows Leaving home Fighting them off For years I spy on you As if you like me watching Drinking Russian vodka Nothings as it seems Married to A travel agent In this family Of strangers No connection We only speak in code This love Never clean cut Its the lie That keeps everyone alive Governing neighbours Hot in this Cold War Just remember What we’re fighting for If I’m found out they won’t find you Taking orders like a waitress Always waiting for some signal The American Dream Fit it all into a suitcase I was waiting for a purpose Tapping phones for interactions I can never go home Poisoning the crops Going hungry again Taught there’s only one way Now doubting every word Lying to the children So everyone gets sleep Stay in bed don’t move an inch
2.
Stay in bed don't move an inch. I'm making you breakfast I'll be back in a pinch. Biscuits, ham, and eggs but as I turn around honey I can see your legs. Your lipstick kiss got me stuck in a haze. I burnt my hand on the frying pan. Your lipstick kiss..
3.
Very Nature 00:55
Your lipstick kiss, it marks my jaw. What is your name, I can't recall? My tangled shirt is falling off. It's in my very nature. Is it my very nature? It is my crib, this bathroom stall. A running tap is my alarm. I'm wearing shoes but not my socks. It's in my very nature. Is it my very nature? Where is my phone, where did I park? The walk of shame is all day long. The primrose path does not lead home. An obelisk, it breaks my fall. I fill my cup with something raw.
4.
Succumb 00:48
I fill my cup with something raw. You treat me like a yokel, I’m slack jawed. I feel destined for the void again and the love unearned has caused a deficit. And I’ve come to my senses, my senses, succumbed to my senses and now I know that I’ve got my consensus. Consensus. I’ve got my consensus. I don’t deserve to get along. I don’t deserve to get along. I don’t deserve to get along with you or anyone that good. I wanted love, but just felt misunderstood. Oh no, they’re right. I’ve realized that this league ain’t mine. And I’ve succumbed to my senses, my senses. I’ve come to my senses, my senses.
5.
I've come to my senses Off in my head helpless It's not where it's supposed to be I'm talking 'bout eternity Lost where my house and my home is Get up Stand up Get straight Don't be late You're in the right place
6.
Maybe / Mush 00:59
I'm in the right place, right time as well. Speaking as far as I can tell. Maybe I'm a mess and I need to sleep. Maybe I have had too much to drink. Maybe I'll spit some more blood down the sink. Maybe my brain is mush and I can't think. The future’s looking quite well for me. Looking so far as I can see. Maybe I'm a mess and I need to sleep. Maybe I have had too much to drink. Maybe I'll spit some more blood down the sink. Maybe my brain is mush and I can't think.
7.
A Jerk 00:59
Maybe my brain is mush and I can't think. Open a can of worms when I try to speak. Giving a shit about you is not my thing. Maybe my brain is mush and I'm not educated, but I think I know alot. You don't have to ask; I'm gonna say it even though I really should shut up. Maybe my brain is mush and I can't think. Open a can of worms when I try to speak. Giving a shit about you is not my thing. Maybe my brain is mush and I dont try to give a fuck. I use a logic of the gut. I'm a glutton with your time, and I came into some money but I cannot spare a dime. Maybe my brain is mush and I use a logic of the gut.
8.
Logic of the gut, dishonest, eager hearts, that never make the cut, that never wanna give out their fair right impression right away. With pathetic, prophetic statements. Fake it til you’re content with faking it. Put your best foot forward until it cramps up on you, you dehydrated piece of fool. Tragic aching gut, discouraged, bitter hearts. Wallow in a rut. Brought back to the false start where they’re seizing up again. Hydrate repeat.
9.
Hydrate repeat Watch what you eat Get a good sleep Try to count sheep Gotta sweat it out now Gotta sweat it out now Hydrate repeat Healthy beliefs Stretch it out now Stretch it out now Stretch it out now Woo! Take a deep breath Have no regrets Clear your conscience Listen silence Gotta work it out now Gotta work it out now Can't have no bread No carbs bad bread Can't have no milk No eggs no yolk I'm all out of eggs

about

Rapid Fire was the name of Matt's dad's garage band in the 80's, and this album cover is from the band's first and only product; a raglan tee shirt with a drawing of a lion soaring through space (drawn by Matt's dad, RIP).

As the name suggests, this album is a rapid succession of fast and short tracks; 9 songs in 8 minutes 20 seconds. The band thinks this is a very agreeable length for an album.

Living through the 2020 quarantine was hard for everyone, and this pandemic has changed so many lives. Having written, rehearsed, performed, and recorded exclusively off-the-floor until 2020, the group realized they needed a new approach. They collaborated remotely with Micaella Joy, a poet and promoter who gave them their first show back in 2017, and who was finishing up a fortnight of quarantine at the time of recording. Micaella wrote the album’s opener, “Cold War”, which speaks to the heightened demands on artists, industries, and mothers during this pandemic. Pop Pop Vernac wrote 8 more interwoven songs that are gone in a blink, and compiled them into a free visual album to be enjoyed in the safety and comfort of your own phone.
